Frequently asked questions

Short answers to what clients ask most.

What should I bring to a first consultation?

Your ID and any documents related to the matter: contracts, land titles, letters, court summons or earlier judgments. A short written timeline of events is also very helpful.

How are fees set?

Fees depend on the type and complexity of the matter and follow the Rwanda Bar Association's rules. They are discussed openly and agreed in writing before work begins.

Can my case go to mediation instead of trial?

Many civil, commercial, family and land disputes can. Mediation can take place before a case is filed or after the court refers it. We can assess together whether it suits your situation.

Do you take cases outside Kigali?

Yes. Advocates registered with the Rwanda Bar Association can appear before courts throughout Rwanda.

Is what I share kept confidential?

Yes. Everything you tell your advocate is covered by professional secrecy.
